Covishield and Covaxin both are homegrown vaccines that are being manufactured in India itself.

So, basically what’s the difference between the two?

COVISHIELD

  1. Research regarding covishield vaccine was conducted by Oxford University in collaboration with Astrazeneca whereas the manufacturing is being done by Serum Institute of India.
  2. Covishield is a weakened version of chimpanzee Adenovirus vector(ChAdOx1) and contains the genetic material of the SARS-CoV-2 virus spike protein named Glycoprotein.
  3. The weak virus when inserted in body through vaccine acts as antigen which in turn activates the antibody of the person who got jabbed.
  4. As per report , Covishield is 70 to 90% effective i.e out of 100 people , around 90 has seen improvement and their immunity to fight against the virus has increased.

COVAXIN

  1. Covaxin is India’s first indigenous vaccine against Corona.
  2. Covaxin has been developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Virology.
  3. Covaxin contains corona virus in attenuated/killed form. Due to which the virus can not replicate in the body through vaccination.
  4. As per reports, Covaxin is 78% efficient and has shown 100% efficacy against mortality (zero death cases after taking the vaccine)
  5. The attenuated virus triggers the antibody of the person who got jabbed and thus increases the immunity of that person

So, which one to choose?

Both the vaccines are equally efficient and requires two doses to be taken.

Covaxin’s second dose should be taken within 4-6 weeks after the first dose whereas in covishield, a gap of 6-8 weeks is required

So, don’t get confused in choosing the vaccine. Just relax and get jabbed  !!
