As per the Ministry of Education, PM SHRI will be a centrally sponsored scheme. Under it, around 14,500 schools would be upgraded to relish the components of National education policy NEP 2020. It would act as NEP labs.

As an exemplary school, it would help in offering mentorship to other schools present in its vicinity. These schools will be well equipped with modern infrastructure, labs, Atal tinkering labs, sports equipment, art rooms, smart classrooms and lot more

Apart from this, these schools would be developed as GREEN schools equipped with water conservation, energy efficient, waste recycling, integration of organic lifestyle in curriculum, and solar power-enabled infrastructure.

Thus, the major flagship scheme would help in revolutionizing the art of teaching as well as learning-oriented outcomes.

How it is different from Kendra Vidhyalas(KVs) and Javahar Navoday Vidhyalas (JNVs)?

Kendra vidhyalas or javahar navoday vidhyalas come entirely under the center’s ministry of education. They are fully funded by the central government under Central Sector schemes.

KVs largely cater to children of Union government employees posted in states and UTs, whereas JNVs were set up to nurture talented students in India.

PM SHRI schools would upgrade existing schools run by center, state, UTs, and local bodies. This means that PM SHRI can either be JNVs, KVs, state government schools or even those run by municipal corporations.
