Since Lok sabha elections 1962, MCC is strictly followed under the aegis of Election Commission of India(ECI)

MCC comes into effect immediately after the announcement of elections

It remains operational until the date of result announcement

It seeks power from ARTICLE 324 of Indian Constitution

Infringement of MCC leads to invocation of Indian Penal Code 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, and Representation of the People Act 1951

Model Code of Conduct is based on 8 key provisions
